The Partisan Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Szczawa

This church was founded in 1958, its interior, however, is an interesting example of contemporary sacral folk art. Every year in August, veterans of the First Regiment of Riflemen of the Home Army - participants of the partisan fight for independence in the region during World War II meet here, at the altar of Our Lady of Ludźmierz.

Next to the church there is a small museum of the Home Army fighting in Gorce, which stores mementos of that time. During World War II, Gorce constituted a strong resistance point and was a place where many partisan troops stationed. When hiking on the trails of Gorce, you can encounter a lot of mementos from that period, such as graves, crosses or traces of partisan quarters.
