Piwniczna-Zdrój

Piwniczna was founded in 1348 by King Kazimierz Wielki, on the trade route from Kraków through Nowy Sącz to Kosice. In the 19th century, mineral springs were found here, and in 1884, the first visitors came here. During the Nazi occupation, partisan troops operated in the surrounding forests, and a courier route to Hungary ran through the town.

The main tourist attraction of the town is boat rafting on the Poprad river from Piwniczna to Rytr. The well in the market square with a statue of the town's founder  and the parish church from 1885 are definitely worth seeing.

An interesting place in Piwniczna is the Manisoons gallery. Located in a small sanatorium, the place's interior is decorated with various artworks. You can admire and buy artistic and applied paintings, ceramics, glass and fabric here. In addition to the works of local artists there is also an interesting collection of African art from the collection of the African Mission. You can also purchase here glass works of a well-known artist, Piotr Lisowski, whose work has been appreciated by Pope John Paul II and Queen Elizabeth, among others.
