Szczawnica and a unique bat habitat

Szczawnica is a resort in a picturesque Grajcarka valley in the Pieniny Mountains, competing with the most famous in the Beskid Mountains, Krynica. The lower part of the town, where the stream flows into the Dunajec River, lies at the mouth of the Pieniny turn, and it is here where rafting trips on Dunajec end. Szczawnica owes its fame not only to rafting, but also to the wonderful mountain range location and a mild climate, but most of all to the healing mineral waters.

One of the interesting facts you should know is that the attic of the St. Adalbert Church in Szczawnica constitutes a shelter for one of the rarest species of bats - the lesser horseshoe bat. In 2006, special conversion work was carried out to preserve the habitat.
