Ustroń

Driving up to Ustroń, you can see from afar some resort buildings scattered on mountain slopes, especially the characteristic silhouettes of "pyramids" - recreation centers built in the '70s in Zawodzie. The difference in altitude between the center and some farmsteads amounts to 500 m. A picturesque location, the climate and mineral springs have turned this small agro-pastoral village from the mid-nineteenth century into a thriving resort. Tourism development was associated with the rapidly expanding steel industry. Hot blast furnace slag, which was thrown into the cold water, was used for medicinal purposes. Released in this way sulfur compounds effectively prevented rheumatism and rheumatic disorders. At the end of the nineteenth century, peat deposits and natural mineral water resources were discovered here. Currently, many modern spa facilities are built here, and traditional establishments are increasingly trying to make their offer more interesting.
